The Rose Cross symbol is primarily utilized by several secret societal circles. It is often associated with Rosicruciansm. The Rose Cross, also known as the Rosy Cross and Rosie Cross, symbolizes the practices of Rosicruciansm. Rosicruciansm was founded by German Christian Rosenkreuz, which favors Protestantism and Lutheranism.

Their practices largely rejected the beliefs of Catholicism and of Muhammad. The Rosy Cross was also adopted by Freemasons in the 18th century, which is when it began to be recognized in the public sphere.

Freemasons used the Rosy Cross during Rosicrucian Masonic Rites, including the Rectified Scottish Rite and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. The 18th Degree of Freemasonary is particularly interested in the Rose Cross symbol, as it represents the “Knight Rose Croix”. The Rosy Cross also symbolizes what Freemasons typically stand for: the immutability and goodness of God; the immorality of the soul; and the ultimate defeat of evil.

Another secret society, which reportedly has ties to the Illuminati, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, has adopted the Rose Cross symbol as well. The Order of the Golden Dawn reportedly uses the Rosie Cross for spiritual protection. The Rosy Cross to them possesses Planets, Elements, the Hebrew Alphabet, Zodiac, the Hexagram, and Pentagram.

The arms of the Rosie Cross signify Elements, with the white segments representing the Holy Spirit and Planets in the center of the Rosy Cross. Moreover, the petals of the rose on the Rose Cross symbol stands for the twenty-two paths on the Tree of Life and the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Lastly, below the rose is the hexagram.

 


The addition of the hexagram has sparked debate regarding hidden agendas within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, including their associations with the Illuminati. The pentagram, which is placed on each arm, also has conspiracy theorist talking. However, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn is not shy regarding their support of Jesus Christ.

In fact, the Rose Cross symbol includes the inscription, I.N.R.I, which stands for Jesus, King of the Jews. The Rose Cross is worn by its members today to promote their message. It symbolizes the Rosicrucian lineage that was passed down before them.

Another religious secret society that utilizes the Rosie Cross is Thelema. Founded by Aleister Crowley, Thelema is based off of religious practices. Crowley stipulated a variety of ethical, cultural, and political principles to follow. The main philosophy of Thelema, though, is recognizing that men and women possess divine nature, and that love is a reflection of The Great Work. The Great Work is the process of obtaining knowledge within Thelema through the Holy Guardian Angel.

The societies mentioned above are the major users of the Rosy Cross; however, the Rose Cross symbol is used by many other groups as well. Its interpretations are usually up to the discretion of the particular group, so it is important to recognize its meaning within the specific group. What they do have in common is that they have all been influenced by Rosicrucianism.

The Cabalistic Order of the Rosicrucian, Fraternitas Rosae Crucis, Elder Brothers of the Roise-Croix, Societas Rosicruciana in America, and many others. While the meaning and interpretation of the Rose Cross symbol differs between some of the societies, all generally follow the word of Jesus Christ and use it has a symbol of Christianity.
